Herman Lawrence Casteel, 79, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Thursday morning, February 1, 2018 in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm EST on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Skip Speed officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City.
Mr. Casteel was born February 17, 1938 in Blountville, TN to the late Robert Casteel and Coralee Eaton Casteel. He was retired as a sales representative with Hughes Supply / W C Bradley Company with 40 years of service. He served our country and was a Veteran of the United States Army. His love and passion through his own children’s participation in sports was coaching Little League baseball and football; this was a love that grew many friendships and relationships as these youths developed into young adults. His greatest enjoyment was spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and family. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and playing golf, and he was attending Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Eva Pearl pate Casteel, one daughter, Cyndi Casteel Avera and husband Graham, three sons, Phillip Casteel and wife Jeanne, Bobby Casteel and wife Jan, and Johnny Casteel and wife Alice; one brother, Fred Casteel and wife Karon, (8) grandchildren, Kayla Casteel, Graham Avera III, Phillip Casteel II, Holly Casteel, Jordan Avera, Drew Shaughnessy (Casteel), Grace Casteel, and Keegan Shaughnessy (Casteel), several nieces, nephews, extended family members and many caring friends.
