Joe W. Newman, Jr., 88, of Phenix City passed away Friday at Piedmont Medical Center.
A funeral service will be at 4pm Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City. The family will greet friends before the service and he will be buried with his wife at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
Joe was born in Phenix City on July 15, 1930 to the late Joe W. Newman, Sr. and Anna Lucile Newman. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy for many years. He was also part of the Smith Station post of the Sheriff’s office when it opened. Other than his parents his is preceded in death by his wife Wanda Newman and a son Mikel Ray Newman.
He is survived by his children, Johnny Ray Newman, Joe Ray Newman and wife Sheila and Dawn Worthington and husband George; siblings, Ailen Gilbert and husband Bobby, Rebecca Chapman and Leon “Lee” Newman and wife Janet; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; other extended family and caring friends.
