Wilburn Keeter, age 88, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, 1 p.m. with Reverend Ricky Ward officiating. Private interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 12 noon till 1 p.m.
Mr. Keeter, son of the late Jefferson David Keeter and Lenora Mae Clayton Keeter, was born August 23, 1931 in Cherokee County, Georgia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served honorably during the Korea Conflict. After his service in the military, Mr. Keeter began a career in carpentry where he worked faithfully for several years with Williams Construction and Pound Construction. Afterwards, he started a new career with Walter F. George U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he worked as a park attendant.
Mr. Keeter was Baptist by faith and enjoyed both hunting and fishing. His greatest passion was spending quality time with his family, particularly his wife. Mr. Keeter always looked forward to family trips. The family remembers him as a man who was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Griffith and two brothers, Clifton Keeter and Alfred Keeter. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Willene Keeter of Phenix City, Alabama; two daughters, Kathy Evans and her husband Randy of Salem, Alabama and Diane Lynn and her husband Charles of Seale, Alabama; one son, Chuck Keeter and his wife Vikki of Buena Vista, Georgia; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; many other relatives and friends.
